Performance Lab 1: Rate Limiting and Preemptive Queuing

by Howard Berkowitz

Abstract

This laboratory scenario tests your ability to set up classification and policing mechanisms. It uses routers as traffic generators and receivers, because the availability of routers can be assumed. PCs or other hosts that can ping and telnet could easily replace routers R1, R2, and R5 in this exercise.

The first step in the lab is to set up an environment in which to do the QoS testing. Next you establish the performance baseline. Then you are asked to establish a preemptive queuing discipline.
